For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
When you think about your future, what do you see? Do you see wonderful life events still to come, the promise of each new morning, and a reason to get up? Do you have a song to sing, a task to perform, and a joyful heart to accomplish both?
If you are a child of the Most-high King, you should be able answer 'yes' to the above questions. Without a doubt, no hesitation. But the reality is, many children of the Most-high King cannot answer 'yes' so quickly and easily, because life has not been easy. In fact, for many, life has been tremendously hard, and many times, unfair.
Are they still children? YES. Of course. Absolutely! Sometimes the song is stilled, the task is challenging, and the heart is burdened. It is in these times, more than ever, that our Father is close. Although we may not always feel Him near to us, He holds us close and carries us.
I love how Jeremiah 29:11 gives us such assurance. How powerful is the word 'declares.' The word 'declare' means to say something in a solemn and emphatic manner. Here, God is saying very seriously and with full emphasis, that He has plans for us. Plans to prosper and not harm us, plans to give us a hope, and a future. He doesn't just say the words, He declares them. With full confidence, full authority, and the assurance that this promise WILL come to pass. He declares that over your life, and mine.
We look around at everything going on, and it is easy to become discouraged and lose our focus. Yet, there is no caveat to this promise. God doesn't say when times are good, or when there is no strife. He does not qualify His promise in any manner. He simply and powerfully declares His commitment to prosper and not harm us, and to give us a hope and a future.
When we rest in His promises, our hearts become lighter, and more in-tuned with His heart. Even in the midst of unfairness and burdens, we can more easily know that the song He has given to us will be sung again, and the heart will be joyful again.
What does your future hold? It holds a promise from the God who loves you. It holds marvelous plans to prosper you and offers a hopeful and bright future. It also holds a relationship with Him, from now and throughout Eternity. It promises fellowship with Him, and a seat at His table. A mansion He has prepared for you, and a Love that bore it all to get you that mansion.
Be blessed this week. Sing your song if you can and find your joy. But if you can't just now, know that He sings it for you, and safely watches over your joy until you are able to find it again. All is safe with Him.
