1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
On this Valentine's Day I thought it would be fitting to talk about love. Of course there are all kinds of love, but the one thing that is always present is the understanding that love transcends all. And, according to the above Scripture, the traits of love apply to all types of relationships.
As a band, we are constantly striving for new ways to connect with our friends, and bring great music to them. While our songs may vary, and hopefully offer something for everyone to enjoy, the goal of the music is to share and spread the love of our Lord. He is why we sing, and who we sing of.
The songs we sing must have a deeper meaning if they are to matter. They are more than just words, or a musical arrangement. If they are truly inspired by our relationship with our Savior, they will take on a life of their own as they speak to people listening. They will touch the heart of one, and the soul of another. They will move someone to restore a relationship with someone that is broken, or even more importantly, they will inspire someone to return to their First Love. God Himself. Perhaps they may even invite someone for the very first time to get to know this Savior that we praise and worship.
All of the aspects of love described in 1 Corinthians should be a way of life for us, as His children. We should strive to be patient and kind. To not envy others, nor boast in a proud manner. We should not dishonor others, nor seek for our own gain or fame. Continuing on, we should guard against becoming easily angered, or keeping a checklist of how we have been wronged in this life. To never delight in evil, but always rejoice with the truth, wherever we may find it. To always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere. To never fail in our love.
This is a tall order that none of us can ever hope to fulfill as faulty human beings. But we can surely work toward improvement in each of these areas in our lives. I've heard it well-said and suggested for people to remove the word 'love' when saying the above Scripture, and insert our own name. It surely personalizes the challenge and the importance of doing this. What I'd like to suggest is that we also use God's name when doing this. God is patient, God is kind. Because God is love. He is the source of our love and is love, itself.
The best gift we, as a band, can offer you is to promise to always point you all back to the Cross. Not only with our music, but in our lives. When we strive to improve in our own lives, our music can do nothing but improve, as well. Why? Because when God is glorified, He blesses. He is the ultimate Valentine, and He is always faithful. Because love never fails.
