In the Bio section of our website, we'll take an excerpt of one of the passages written there, and further flesh out the meaning of 'Freedom Advocates.' We refer to this passage:
The name ‘Right Hand Shade’ was born out of a desire to see all people find their peace under the shadow of the right hand of God. We are freedom advocates strictly focused on proclaiming that Jesus desires to draw all people closer to Himself. Our prayer is that whoever finds themselves in contact with us in any way would experience a closeness with God that brings peace, safety and wholeness.”
A beautiful definition of Freedom is the state of not being imprisoned or enslaved. And one definition of Advocate is to publicly recommend or support.
We at Right Hand Shade are, indeed, Freedom Advocates. We are strictly focused on proclaiming that Jesus desires to draw all people closer to Himself. We publicly recommend and support the cause of people not being imprisoned or enslaved. To this end, we communicate the Lordship of the only One who is able to set us free. And to keep us free.
This messy and confusing world we live in often causes us to lose our focus. It is easy to get turned around, and to end up in the opposite direction of where our hearts, and our actions, intended us to go. We find ourselves wondering how we got into this situation, or how to get out of a bad circumstance. We look for a way out, and find none. Like a maze that confuses, with doors that are barred, there is no exit, and no escape. When we observe many good and kind people, ensnared and enslaved to powerful masters, we want to free them. Succumbing to addictions, to oppression all around them, to having no strength to free themselves, we want them to know they have a God who sent His Son to break the bondage that enslaves them. Jesus is the ultimate Freedom Advocate. We are but His servants. He is the keeper of the ability to set us free, and to keep us free.
The final sentence in the above passage sums up well what we are about. Our prayer is that whoever finds themselves in contact with us in any way would experience a closeness with God that brings peace, safety and wholeness. This is what freedom is all about. It is the complete opposite of ensnarement and entrapment. It is removing the bars from the doors. Ensnarement, entrapment, succumbing, oppression, confusion. Peace, safety, wholeness, wellness, joy. Freedom. When you think of our name, may it be synonymous with peace, safety and wholeness. We not only create music and sing songs, but we live this life with you. We walk with you, and see you in our communities, our schools, our houses of worship. We advocate through our music, but most importantly, we advocate in our daily lives. Brothers and sisters in Christ. Because even if we didn't exist as a band, we would still exist in our communities. And we would still be proclaiming the freedom that can only be received through a relationship with Jesus Christ, and advocating for all we touch to be invited to receive this same gift we have been given. Freedom. Advocates. If you have received the gift of a relationship with Jesus for yourself, we invite you to join us in helping to set others free. Speak for those who have no voice, strengthen those who are weak, and help to free those who are ensnared. Your community needs you. Your voice is important. Peace, safety, wholeness. Now that is something to sing about!
